The DIN EN IEC 60809 standard is applicable to electric light sources used in automotive applications, such as road illumination devices and light signalling devices for road vehicles. It specifically focuses on light sources listed in UN Resolution R.E.5 and those subject to other legislation. The standard outlines the technical requirements for interchangeability, including dimensional, electrical, and photometrical characteristics, along with the corresponding test methods.
For the light sources listed in this standard, data sheets are either included in the standard itself or referenced from UN Resolution R.E.5. The performance requirements, such as life, torsion strength, resistance to vibration and shock, are specified in IEC 60810. Additionally, the standard also addresses miniature light sources for supplementary purposes that are not subject to legislation, which are covered under IEC 60983.
