Standard EN SampleInsulated Multi-Pole Splicing Wire Connectors
Also Known As:
The CSA C22.2 NO. 2459-08 (R2017) standard, also known as UL 2459, is a standard for insulated multi-pole splicing wire connectors. The scope of this standard includes wire connectors designed for both field wiring and factory wiring, in accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code and the National Electrical Code in the United States. These wire connectors are used to connect devices, such as prefabricated wiring assemblies, smoke detectors, and lighting products, to the branch circuit conductors of buildings. They can also be used internally in luminaries to facilitate the replacement of the ballast.
These wire connectors are suitable for use with stranded copper conductors ranging from 30 to 6 AWG and solid copper conductors ranging from 30 to 10 AWG. They are also suitable for voltages not exceeding 600 V and currents that do not exceed the ampacity of the insulated conductors as rated by the manufacturer.
It is important to note that this standard does not apply to splicing wire connectors intended for direct burial or those intended for use at voltage levels exceeding 600 V. It also does not cover terminal wire connectors, wire binding screw terminals, built-in terminal connectors on devices with integral cable clamps, flat quick-connect terminals, or devices covered by other relevant standards such as CSA C22.2 No. 65 or UL 486A-486B.
