Explosive Atmospheres - Part 46: Equipment Assemblies
Also Known As:
CSA C22.2 NO. 60079-46:19 is a standard that specifies requirements for the design, construction, assembly, testing, inspection, marking, documenting, and assessment of equipment assemblies used in explosive atmospheres. This standard is an adoption of the IEC Technical Specification 60079-46, with Canadian deviations. It is part of a series of standards issued by the CSA Group under the Canadian Electrical Code.
The scope of this standard includes individual items that make up the equipment assembly, which must meet the requirements of the IEC 60079 series or ISO 80079 series and have individual certificates. The standard also includes additional requirements for the assembly itself. It addresses assemblies for hazardous areas and does not cover requirements for non-hazardous areas. Compliance with other electrical or mechanical requirements applicable to non-hazardous areas is assumed.
The standard does not apply to equipment that is already covered by specific IEC 60079 and ISO 80079 types of protection. It also excludes pressurized rooms, installations at end-user sites, classification of hazardous areas, equipment assemblies for mines susceptible to firedamp, inherently explosive situations, dust from explosives or pyrophoric substances, rooms used for medical purposes, and electrical installations in areas with flammable mist.
It's important to note that this standard provides validation only for the initial supply of an assembly. When a requirement in this standard conflicts with a requirement in IEC 60079-0 or ISO 80079-36, the requirement in this standard takes precedence. The only requirement in this document that takes precedence over IEC 60079-0 or ISO 80079-36 is the marking for equipment assemblies.
