Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-72: Particular Requirements for Floor Treatment Machines with or without Traction Drive, for Commercial Use
Also Known As:
The CSA C22.2 NO. 60335-2-72:21 standard is a harmonized standard developed by CSA Group and UL. It is the second edition of the standard and supersedes previous editions. The standard is based on IEC Publication 60335-2-72.
The scope of the standard covers powered ride-on and walk-behind floor treatment machines intended for commercial use. These machines are used for sweeping, scrubbing, wet or dry pick-up, polishing, and other floor treatment applications with artificial surfaces. The standard also specifies that the cleaning motion of these machines is more linear than lateral or periodic.
The standard applies to machines used in various commercial settings, such as hotels, schools, hospitals, factories, retail outlets, and offices. The machines may be equipped with a traction drive system and can be powered by internal combustion engines, mains powered motors (up to a certain rated voltage), or battery-powered motors. Battery-powered machines may also have a built-in battery charger.
It is important to note that the standard does not apply to floor treatment appliances or machines for household use, spray extraction machines, wet and dry vacuum cleaners, road sweepers, machines designed for use on slopes exceeding 20%, machines with a power take-off, machines for use in corrosive or explosive environments, machines for picking up hazardous dusts or inflammable substances, or machines designed for use in vehicles, ships, or aircraft.
The standard also includes modifications to the clauses of Part 2, such as adding additional energy sources or power systems that are covered, specifying excluded machines, and referencing other applicable standards for installation and use.
