Household and Similar Electrical Appliances - Safety - Part 2-89: Particular Requirements for Commercial Refrigerating Appliances and Ice-Makers with an Incorporated or Remote Refrigerant Unit or Motor-Compressor
Also Known As:
The CSA C22.2 NO. 60335-2-89:21 standard sets safety requirements for electrically operated commercial refrigerating appliances and ice-makers that have an incorporated or remote refrigerant unit or motor-compressor.
The standard addresses hazards presented by these types of appliances, including those that use flammable refrigerants and appliances employing R-744 refrigerant. However, it does not cover appliances with a mass of flammable refrigerant exceeding specified limits or appliances using refrigerants with a toxicity classification of B.
The standard is not applicable to appliances with specific configurations, such as appliances using flammable refrigerant in transcritical refrigeration systems, domestic refrigerating appliances, motor-compressors, vending machines, professional ice-cream appliances, laboratory refrigerators, and freezers.
The standard was developed by CSA Group and Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), based on IEC Publication 60335-2-89. It has been harmonized with UL 60335-2-89 and supersedes the previous edition published in 2017. The standard is considered suitable for use in conformity assessment within its stated scope.
