Standard ENStandard Specification for Copper-Clad Steel Wire for Electronic Application
Also Known As:
ASTM B452-09 (R2015) is a standard specification that provides guidelines for the manufacturing and testing of copper-clad steel wire for electronic applications. The standard covers four classes of copper-clad steel wire, which are referred to as Class 30HS, 30A, 40HS, and 40A. These classes have different conductivity levels and can be either hard-drawn or annealed.
The wire is made up of a core material of homogeneous steel, which can be produced using open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen methods. This core is then coated with a continuous layer of copper, ensuring a strong bond between the copper cladding and the steel core. The standard specifies the required tensile strength, elongation, and electrical resistivity values for each class of wire.
The dimensions of the wire are measured using a micrometer caliper, and torsion tests are conducted to assess its strength and resistance to fracturing. The adhesion between the copper cladding and the steel core is evaluated, and the surface finish is inspected to ensure it meets the allowable number of defects.
