Standard ENStandard Test Methods for Forced-Convection Laboratory Ovens for Evaluation of Electrical Insulation
Also Known As:
The ASTM D5374-13 standard provides test methods for forced-convection laboratory ovens used for evaluating the electrical insulation of materials. These ovens are designed to maintain uniform temperature and air circulation over extended periods of time, ensuring consistent testing conditions. Specification D5423 is referenced, which specifies acceptable deviations from absolute uniformity that are internationally recognized.
The standard covers procedures for evaluating the characteristics of forced-convection ventilated electrically-heated ovens, which can operate within the temperature range from 20°C above ambient temperature to 500°C. These ovens are primarily used for thermal endurance evaluation of electrical insulating materials.
The test methods outlined in this standard are based on IEC Publication 216-4-1, making them technically identical to it. Specification D5423, along with these test methods, has replaced the previously used Specification D2436.
