Standard ENStandard Specification for Copper-Clad Steel Wire for Electronic Application
Also Known As:
The ASTM B452-22 standard is titled "Standard Specification for Copper-Clad Steel Wire for Electronic Application" and it covers the requirements for bare round copper-clad steel wire used in electronic applications. The standard includes four classes of copper-clad steel wire: Class 30HS, Class 30HS-A, Class 40HS, and Class 40HS-A.
The wire is composed of a core made of open-hearth, electric-furnace, or basic-oxygen steel, with a continuous outer cladding of copper bonded to the core throughout. The standard specifies the tensile strength and elongation requirements that the wire must meet. It also includes an electrical resistivity test performed at a specified temperature for each class of wire, with maximum values prescribed in the standard.
Dimensional measurements of the wire are made using a micrometer caliper, and the wire must be able to withstand a torsion test without fracturing. The adhesion between the copper cladding and the steel core is also assessed according to the standard's criteria. Additionally, the standard sets requirements for the surface finish of the wire, specifying the allowable number of defects.
