Standard EN SampleElectrical Equipment for Mines and Quarries - Bolted Explosion-Protected Three-Phase Cable Coupling Devices
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 1300:2009 (R2020) is a standard that specifies the design and test requirements for bolted explosion-protected three-phase cable coupling devices used in mines and quarries. These devices are designed to couple cables together or couple a cable to equipment. It is important to note that these coupling devices should not be coupled or uncoupled while the circuit is energized.
The standard covers two types of coupling devices. Type A devices are designed to interconnect cable coupling devices from different manufacturers and comply with specified dimensions outlined in the standard. On the other hand, Type B devices are designed with dimensions that are not compatible with Type A devices. Type B couplers cannot be directly coupled to Type A devices under normal operation, but the use of transition devices between the two systems is allowed.
In addition to the design and compatibility requirements, the standard also addresses electrical and mechanical requirements, including the provision of earthed phase barriers to protect against interphase faults. However, it does not provide fully detailed designs.
Appendix A of the standard lists the information that users should provide with any enquiry or order, while Appendix C lists the information that should be supplied by the designer or manufacturer. These appendices serve as helpful references for ensuring clear communication and compliance with the standard.
