Standard EN SampleElectrical Installations - Construction and Demolition Sites
Also Known As:
AS/NZS 3012:2019 is a standard that outlines the minimum requirements for the design, construction, and testing of electrical installations on construction and demolition sites. It also covers the in-service testing of portable, transportable, and fixed electrical equipment used on these sites. The standard aims to protect personnel, livestock, and property from electric shock, fire, and physical injury hazards that may arise from the use of electrical installations.
Appendix A provides modifications to the requirements for single domestic residences or adjoining units in Australia, while Appendix J provides modifications for domestic housing sites in New Zealand where the electricity supply does not exceed 32 A single phase. The National Construction Code (NCC) for Australia and the New Zealand Building Code (NZBC) classification of building and structures are also referred to in Appendix A.
The standard applies to a wide range of activities on construction and demolition sites, including building work, excavation work, compressed air work, diving work, structural alterations to buildings, construction or maintenance of roads, airfields, bridges, railways or tramways, dredging or salvaging work, pipe or cable laying or maintenance, earthmoving work, work involving explosives, as well as the provision of site facilities such as offices, meeting rooms, and toilets.
It should be noted that for safe working practices on or near electrical equipment and installations, AS/NZS 4836 should be referred to, along with Codes of Practice or guidance issued by the regulatory authorities.
